Super Eagles' Nwabali Wins Rivers State Award Coach Peseiro Gifted
Stanley Nwabali, the standout goalkeeper for the Super Eagles and Chippa United, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State, the second highest honour in the state, following his exceptional performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire. This accolade comes as a testament to Nwabali's significant contributions to Nigerian football, particularly after his remarkable showing at the AFCON, where he emerged as one of the tournament's top goalkeepers, keeping four clean sheets and playing a pivotal role in Nigeria's journey to the final for the first time in eleven years.
The Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State is a prestigious recognition, ranking just below the Grand Service Star of Rivers State GSSRS, and adds to Nwabali's growing list of accolades, including the Member of the Order of the Niger MON honour previously bestowed by Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In addition to the honour, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced a N20 million reward for Nwabali, further highlighting the state's appreciation of his achievements.
The ceremony, attended by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro and his assistant George Finidi, also saw Peseiro receiving an N30 million gift, underscoring the state's support and recognition for the contributions of the national team's coaching staff. This gesture reflects the broader appreciation for the efforts of individuals who have elevated Nigerian football on the international stage.
