Teenage Nephew of Two Former Super Eagles Stars Departs Man City

Manchester City winger Tai Sodje nephew of former Super Eagles defenders Efe and Sam Sodje has officially left the club on a free transfer, the club confirmed this week.

The 19 year old attacker, who rose through City’s academy ranks and featured twice for their U21 side in the EFL Trophy during the 2021–22 season, had not broken into the first team. His exit marks the end of an 18 year association with the Citizens, spanning his earliest youth days to this summer’s departure.

Sodje, known for his pace, versatility across front three positions, and a knack for goals, will now seek regular senior club football elsewhere . His representative confirmed that the move paves the way for consistent first‑team action after years of academy football.

Editorial

We applaud Tai Sodje’s bold decision. At 19, every minute on the pitch is precious. Staying at a top club offers prestige and training but match time makes careers. His release presents an opportunity to reset and flourish in a senior environment where performance, not potential, dictates selection.

Football talent needs platforms to mature; consistent playing time breeds confidence. Tai’s development may benefit more in a Championship or League One side willing to nurture his raw pace and scoring instincts. He has the pedigree: a footballing family legacy that places pressure on but also motivates him to shine.

It’s a critical moment: will he choose a club where he can contribute from the off, or linger on a bench hoping for a break? We believe in proactive moves choosing opportunity over uncertainty. Now is the time for Sodje to step forward, claim his stage, and write his own chapter on his terms.
